Monitor Measure and Manage Diversity Equity and Inclusion
Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is an important part of an organisation’s culture. The difficulty is staying alert and seeing if more can be done to help your employees to collaborate and to perform at their best. Qlik alongside other tools recommended by Differentia Consulting can help your organisation to revolutionise your approach to DEI.
The three components of Diversity Equity and Inclusion can be summarised (but not limited) to the following:
Diversity
Diversity relates to how your employees are different from each other, this can be on a personal level, as part of a group, or cultural identity. Some examples of diversity include:
- Race and ethnicity
- Age
- Gender identity
- Socioeconomic status
- People with disabilities/ long term illnesses
- Religion
- Language
Equity
Equity aims to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities. This can be achieved through more impartiality in processes. It also includes assistance for employees who are experiencing a barrier that prevents them from fully participating and embracing their position in the organisation.
Inclusion
An inclusive company culture is one where every employee feels at ease to contribute and participate. More specifically, employees can participate and collaborate without barriers, intolerance, or discrimination. All while working in a respectful environment that celebrates diversity.
Positive outcomes of DEI
McKinsey highlighted how more diverse organisations continue to outperform their less diverse competitors, in their Why Diversity Matters report.
Alongside a healthy company culture, Kevin Hegan from Qlik gave four positive outcomes of an inclusive workplace in the benefits of having inclusion both in work and in society:
- Increases innovation
- Attracts top talent
- Avoids negative unintended consequences
- Changes cultures to embrace differences
Financial Management Magazine has also discussed how DEI trends and policies are especially effective with home working.
Qlik reduces bias in the workplace
Entirely eliminating bias from a system is impossible. After all, humans have biases, and we are the ones that design and encode the machines that run our systems. That being said, Qlik, alongside complementary tools that Differentia Consulting recommend as part of your solution can greatly reduce bias and the impact it could currently be having on your workforce, customers, and supply chains.
Qlik allows any user to see the whole story of their data, through the green, white, and grey. By giving users this peripheral vision, the system can help alleviate users’ confirmation biases. Simply put, as we naturally seek out confirmation of our existing beliefs, instead of a broader truth, we have a tendency to gravitate towards and over-rely on data that supports our views and to avoid the sets that challenge our convictions. Qlik’s 360-degree view makes it much harder to give in to this tendency, and so will reduce discrimination and lack of inclusion in the workplace.
Deliver more objective and impartial report summaries with Arria
Arria can create a less biased interpretation of reports and data by providing machine-driven language processing to interpret and communicate the details of your reports.
If you interviewed two football supporters after a match (one from the winning team, one from the losing side) you would receive two very different reports of the same game. The emotional investment, and prejudices that we have for subject matter can affect how we report on a subject. What’s more, how we then word our report will then influence those receiving it, (such as in the well known Loftus and Palmer study on the impact of language on eyewitness testimony).
As Arria utilises machine-driven natural language processing (instead of human-generated reports) it can provide more objective and impartial summaries of your reports and data.
Ensure your staff receive equity and fair treatment
When discussing equity in DEI, we are talking about making sure everyone receives the help and support they need to ensure fairness and inclusion across the board. A straightforward task to ensure this is to regularly check in with your staff. However, in many organisations, this can be quite an undertaking.
At Differentia Consulting we would guide you towards Inphinity suite (specifically Inphinity forms) to regularly receive feedback from your employees and to efficiently action any reported difficulties, to ensure equity and inclusion.
Making processes more impartial will also enforce fair treatment throughout your organisation. Processes can be automated as part of a Hyper Automation solution, utilising Smarter.BI.
